WALKING THE GREEN LANES
May is normally a good time for getting some photographs of butterflies, and an area that’s well known for them locally is the Green Lanes and Totternhoe Knoll. It’s an area I’ve really explored that much so I thought I would check it out.
During the 20 or so minute drive to Totternhoe, I drive through quite thick patches of fog and mist, and couldn’t resist stopping on the way to get an image of the crops disappearing into the mist. Unfortunately, the rest of the morning wasn’t quite as easy…
What followed was about 45 minutes of aimlessly wondering around looking for roosting butterflies and not finding a single one. I did make a few images during this time that was quite pleased with. The snail in particular I like.
As is often the case, you find what you’re looking for when you stop looking… As I was walking back to the car I noticed an Orange Tip butterfly resting on some grass. It was overhanging a rather steep drop, so a tripod was out of the question. However, I manage to get a shot shooting handheld and was pleased to have at least one butterfly in the Green Lanes at Totternhoe.
On Sunday 26th September the final four chimneys of the Stewartby Brickworks were demolished, and we lose another reminder of our local history.
